Problems of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity can be caused by a variety of medical conditions. Although there has been much debate about whether medicines or complementary and alternative therapies, like EEG biofeedback (neurotherapy), coaching and social skills training are “right” for a patient, one fact is certain: the effective treatment of “ADHD-symptoms” requires an accurate diagnosis of the underlying causes of the problem in each individual who seeks our help. Over the past two decades, we have evaluated and treated over 10,000 patients with attention deficit disorders. Spend a little time on our site and let us share a bit of that knowledge with you.

Question: How can I locate a specialist in ADHD in my area? Answer: There are several strategies that I'd recommend. First, consider contacting a nearby college or university that has a graduate program in psychology or a medical school. Typically, such a center will be aware of specialists in the area. Second, consider visiting the website of CHADD, a national organization dedicated to promoting the success of individuals with ADHD (www.chadd.org). They maintain a directory of individuals who specialize in the treatment of ADHD. For those interested in practitioners who are knowledgeble about the application of QEEG techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, the following websites will be helpful: www.isnr.org (International Society for Neurotherapy and Research); www.aapb.org (The Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback), www.bfe.org (The Biofeedback Foundation of Europe) and www.bcia.org (Biofeedback Certification Institute of America). |
